On Sunday morning we were up bright and early to pack everything, and I mean everything, for the trip to Trudy and Dave’s to celebrate Abby’s birthday.
Being in the cities, it was a quick trip up I-94 to their place, but it was a matter of getting on the road.
Tracy and I were up fairly early, getting showered and ready. That time gave Theresa, Rachel and Brenna a little more time to see their nephew before we left, which they gladly took. I got a great picture of Brenna lying down with Xander and Carter, one we’ll have to give to my mom as a picture of all her babies.
A little after 8, I had the car completely loaded and ready for Tracy, Haley and Xander. It’s amazing what you can amass on a trip where you really don’t do any shopping. Getting on the road early meant that there wasn’t too much traffic, which was nice. The only thing that wasn’t nice was it was melting just enough to make the window dirty.
We finally reached Trudy and Dave’s at about 10 (thanks to a detour a la Mapquest) and we barely made it in the door before there was a mad rush to see Xander.
Trudy and the girls were supposed to come see Xander a couple weeks before, but illness ended that fast. Isabelle, the youngest, was devastated when they couldn’t come see Xander earlier. After not being able to see him, Isabelle took advantage of her older sisters arguing and called first to hold Xander when we finally saw them.
True to her claim, Isabelle was the first to hold Xander when we got there on Sunday, something she was very proud of. In turn, Sarah and Abby also held Xander, and three little girls were very pleased.
Xander in turn was held by most everyone there. Dave and Trudy took their turns as did several of Dave’s sisters. Xander loves being held, so that was not a problem for him.
Even though it was Abby’s birthday party Xander received many great gifts. One that I was really excited about was the diaper can that is supposed to be odor proof. I will never figure out how something so small can create messes so big.
After Abby opened her presents and we had cake, it was once again time to hit the road. Xander slept for much of the trip, as did Haley. We were just rolling into town when Xander got a bit fussy. Not bad for being in his car seat for over 2 ½ hours!
It is amazing how much stuff you can amass on a weekend trip. I swore that Xander’s clothing collection doubled from Thursday when we packed till we returned home on Sunday. It’s mainly thinks to his great aunts who love to shop and spoil him.
Overall, it was a great first trip. Now we’ll have to see where the next one takes us.
