The Dreaded Dr. Visit

On Friday Xander had to go back to the Doctor for his 2-month checkup.
The thing that had Tracy worried was this time there were needles invovled.
Of course they weighed him and measured him right away. Tracy and I were figuring that he would weigh in around 8 pounds, so imagine our surprise when the little chunk was over 10 pounds! We knew he was getting bigger, but four pounds since the last visit was a big shock!
He also grew another inch or so, which was nice to see. The nurse said he was in the 60th percentile for weight, lenght and noggin size, so he's right on track.
After a quick checkup for Tracy, it was time for the shots.
There were four shots, so two nurses came in to do them two at a time. I felt a little bad setting him on that table with him not knowing what was going to happen.
I was above him, holding his hands for the nurses, and the look on his face when they poked him was one of pure shock and terror.
He started screaming, much louder than ever before, and it got even louder on the second set. I felt bad, but knew it wasn't going to tramatize him.
He was pretty upset when that was over, but getting held by mommy and daddy seemed to help a bit.
A little Tylenol and he was pretty tired from the experience. I'm glad that first round is over.
The one that's going to be worse is when he realizes what happened to him.

Assult on Mommy

It finally happened.
I was so happy.
On Thursday Xander finally showed that it's not just me he likes to soak.
I was eating breakfast that morning and all of a sudden I heard a shout from Xander's room. I went running and when I got there I started laughing.
Tracy was changing his diaper and she finally got peed on and he did a good job of it. Tracy didn't think it was quite as funny as I did, but she couldn't help but laugh.
She was just sliding the diaper under him, which meant that she had his legs up in his hands and he was perfectly aimed when he let it go. Everything was quite wet, but that was fine with me.
I'm just happy someone else finally experienced his abilities.

Lucky There's A Family Guy

Many of you know that I'm a big fan of the TV show Family Guy. I have most of the seasons and always love a new episode.

Well, my coworkers were able to use that knowledge to throw me one heck of a surprise baby shower on Wednesday, February 20th.

It was rather funny that day. There were several of my coworkers that would have sworn that I knew the shower was happening. I'm usually like to joke around at work, keep things light, and a couple of my innocent comments, especially one to Mary about the window in the confrence room being covered, had people wondering.

Conan, one of the AEs at Agency 318 scheduled a meeting from 4:30 to 5 that day, something he ususally doesn't do. Not a big deal but strange. Usually when we are done with a meeting with him we are out quickly, but not that night. He kept us there till 5, and then was like, "oh wait, we have to go to the conference room quick."

As we were walking down, I saw some presents on the counter and started to laugh. I was even more shocked when Tracy, Haley and Xander were in there!

When I walked in they had two huge Family Guy posters hanging up, a Family Guy diaper cake and Family Guy playing on the TV!

They had been planning this since December and everyone was able to keep it a secret. I was pretty impressed.

We had some great food and got wonderful presents from everyone, everyone got to hold Xander again. It was a real good time.

The one person that didn't get to see Xander (again) was Sunshine, but he left two video messages for us, which were quite funny. I'm going to see if he won't let me post them here.

Donna was also gone, and she made a crazy cool invitation for everyone with a Family Guy theme. It was awesome!

Of course we have to thank everyone for the great gifts and the fun time. It's always nice when you have an amazing team to work with. Makes it a lot easier to come to work every day.

A Bunch of New Pictures

Of course this past weekend we took a ton of pictures visiting our families. They are now posted at the link on the right or by going here: http://picasaweb.google.com/pander69/XanderThrough22108

Xander's Great Adventure, Pt. 3

On Sunday morning we were up bright and early to pack everything, and I mean everything, for the trip to Trudy and Dave’s to celebrate Abby’s birthday.

Being in the cities, it was a quick trip up I-94 to their place, but it was a matter of getting on the road.

Tracy and I were up fairly early, getting showered and ready. That time gave Theresa, Rachel and Brenna a little more time to see their nephew before we left, which they gladly took. I got a great picture of Brenna lying down with Xander and Carter, one we’ll have to give to my mom as a picture of all her babies.

A little after 8, I had the car completely loaded and ready for Tracy, Haley and Xander. It’s amazing what you can amass on a trip where you really don’t do any shopping. Getting on the road early meant that there wasn’t too much traffic, which was nice. The only thing that wasn’t nice was it was melting just enough to make the window dirty.

We finally reached Trudy and Dave’s at about 10 (thanks to a detour a la Mapquest) and we barely made it in the door before there was a mad rush to see Xander.

Trudy and the girls were supposed to come see Xander a couple weeks before, but illness ended that fast. Isabelle, the youngest, was devastated when they couldn’t come see Xander earlier. After not being able to see him, Isabelle took advantage of her older sisters arguing and called first to hold Xander when we finally saw them.

True to her claim, Isabelle was the first to hold Xander when we got there on Sunday, something she was very proud of. In turn, Sarah and Abby also held Xander, and three little girls were very pleased.

Xander in turn was held by most everyone there. Dave and Trudy took their turns as did several of Dave’s sisters. Xander loves being held, so that was not a problem for him.

Even though it was Abby’s birthday party Xander received many great gifts. One that I was really excited about was the diaper can that is supposed to be odor proof. I will never figure out how something so small can create messes so big.

After Abby opened her presents and we had cake, it was once again time to hit the road. Xander slept for much of the trip, as did Haley. We were just rolling into town when Xander got a bit fussy. Not bad for being in his car seat for over 2 ½ hours!

It is amazing how much stuff you can amass on a weekend trip. I swore that Xander’s clothing collection doubled from Thursday when we packed till we returned home on Sunday. It’s mainly thinks to his great aunts who love to shop and spoil him.

Overall, it was a great first trip. Now we’ll have to see where the next one takes us.

Xander's Great Adventure, Pt. 2

Saturday came quite quickly for the Oey family, especially since Xander decided we should all stay up most of the night. After breakfast at the hotel it was time to get ready for Xander’s special day having his picture taken at JC Penny.

After Tracy and I talked to Rachel, we decided that we would do a special picture for my parents, taking one of all three kids. That and the rest of the pictures turned out great. Xander was a little pro, laying there without crying while we put him through a variety of poses. My favorites are the simple ones on a black background. Now that I have had a chance to see their setup, I plan on purchasing much of what they use so that I can do the same for Xander and others that eventually come to me.

Haley was also great, working with both Xander and Carter to make the picture of the three of them a great one.

After the pictures it was a little hectic, it being President’s Day weekend in the cities and we were not able to really do what we wanted. That night Haley, Carter and I went swimming in the hotel pool, which was a welcome refresher.

I had a feeling Xander would do much of the same on Saturday night as he did on Friday, but Tracy and I made a change. Instead of having Haley out where we would feed him, we put her in the big bed (which she liked) and then whichever of us was up with him would be out in the other area.

It was another long night, but when we awoke that morning we were all excited to complete the next leg of our journey, heading to Tracy’s sister’s place near St. Cloud.

Xander's Great Adventure, Pt. 1

After a low-key Valentine’s Day, we embarked on our most daunting excursion with Xander yet. A trip to the Twin Cities and St. Cloud.

On Friday morning we all woke up bright and early so we could get on the road in time for our tax appointment. Tracy and I have been going to Pat’s Tax Service in Lamberton for several years now and have always been pleased with the job Pat does.

After a successful tax appointment where Xander and Haley were good kids, we hopped back in the Envoy and headed up Highway 71 to Redwood Falls where we planned to stop at Dairy Queen for a trio of shrimp baskets, it being a Friday during Lent and all.

We almost had to rethink the shrimp basket idea because when we walked into the Dairy Queen we were hit with a cold blast – from inside the restaurant. Not a good thin when you have a month old baby with you.

I went to change Xander while Tracy ordered and realized that it wasn’t going to happen there. The bathroom wasn’t exactly “new” and didn’t have any space to set him down. Xander had to wait while I quickly ate and Tracy and Haley froze, to get back in the car to have his diaper changed.

Back on the road to the cities, Xander did pretty good. He fussed a little, but for being in the car that long, I was really happy with him. Xander (and Tracy and Haley) got a nice little nap in. Me, not so much as I usually get in trouble if I sleep while driving.

We reached Eden Prairie first and stopped at the Eden Prairie Center to stretch our legs and do a quick reconnaissance mission to locate the JC Penny photo studio. (Yes, I am a photographer, but I am still not set up for studio yet and we wanted to get Xander’s pictures done.)

After that we made it to the Residence Inn where Xander and Haley got to see my sisters, Theresa, Rachel and Brenna, and Xander and Haley’s cousin, Carter. All three were more than excited to see Xander and passed him around, stopping to let Carter hold him for a bit, until we finally decided to go get some supper.

Xander, in his day of firsts, got another first as we went to the Mall of America for supper. After that we did a little shopping, my dad bought Xander a few outfits at the Disney Store (and of course, Haley wasn’t left out, getting a High School Musical notebook) and then it was on to Target where we got a few things before heading back to the hotel.

Xander had been doing great the whole time, even resting a bit at the Mall of America. He did get a bit fussy at Target, but calmed down once we were back at the hotel.

Haley had been promised Cold Stone Creamery ice cream, so Theresa, Brenna and I went searching for the nearest one, and everyone ended a nice day with a delicious dessert.

But the night wasn’t over there.

Xander, who had slept quite a bit in the car, decided he wasn’t very tired anymore, which made for a long night for Tracy, Haley and I. At least everyone else was in the other room. I think Xander was actually over-tired from all the travel and being passed around. Tracy and I tried to take turns sitting with him, but Haley wasn’t too happy about it since the chair was located next to her bed.

He did sleep a little, but it could have been a lot more. Tracy and I were quite tired the next day, but we soldiered on into Saturday.

Decorating Xander's Room

So, as many of you know, we originally thought Xander was going to be a girl. Because of that, Tracy and I had bought a pink bedspread and a few things to go with it.

Well obviously Xander wasn't going to be a pink kid, so we had to take back the pink stuff, which was ok with me.

The next step was to find a new bedroom set for the little man.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am a sports guy. I love almost every sport - watching, playing, playing the video game, everything. We looked at several different designs that didn't invovle sports. They were cool, but not exactly what I wanted.

I was told that since I got to pick the name that I really didn't get a say in what the room looked like.

To start, we painted the room yellow. Luckily I was able early on to say that by painting it yellow we wouldn't tip people off to what we were (supposedly) having.

There were a lot of very nice looking bedroom sets for boys, but I still had my heart set on something sports.

Eventually Tracy found a set at Target that was sports that she liked. It has bright, bold colors, so it matches the yellow walls.

Now to just decorate the walls. . .

More New Pictures!

I figured it has been a few days since we've posted new pictures, so I added a bunch more.

Visitors on 2-9

On Saturday evening, our neighbors, Kathy and Kelly, got a chance to see Xander.
It's one of those things where since we are so close, you kind of forget they haven't been here yet.
Haley and I were out and about, doing a little shopping at Wal-Mart when we ran into them. We told them that if they weren't busy, we would be around all night since it was so cold. We weren't taking Xander anywhere, that's for sure!
Kathy and Kelly came over and Xander found another person that he likes to hold him. He got a little fussy, but Kathy grabbed the bottle and fed him, which made him very happy.
It's fun when the neighbors come to visit. Kathy and Kelly have been the best neighbors, always helping us out, so of course they told us to bring him over some night when we wanted to go out.
We just might have to take them up on that.

Out to the Industrial Park

On Thursday Tracy and Xander made the long haul to my office out in the indistrial park so everyone could see Xander. They have been on my case for quite a while now, so everyone was pretty excited to finally see him.
Of course Xander was well behaved while he was out at the office, never really making a peep while getting passed around. I've decided that Xander doesn't really care who is holding him as long as someone is holding him.
He did miss a few people at my office, Sunshine, Terry, so he'll be making a return trip soon so that everyone has the chance to see him.

Bottle Sister

Haley has been a big help with Xander since day one, but now she has some more she can do. We recently started suplimenting Xander's diet with formula, which allows Haley to feed him.

She's wanted to do this ever since he was born, and now she has her wish.

She's very good at it. She knows how to hold him, how to prop him up and how to make sure it doesn't go everywhere. Granted, her arm does get a little tired, but that's to be expected. She's only 11.

She's also found something else she's good at. Helping give Xander a bath.

Tracy and I weren't doing bad, but I was away one evening when Tracy wanted to bathe Xander, so Haley stepped in.

She did a great job and he barely cried. As Xander gets older, I'm sure Haley will keep finding more stuff she can help with.

More New Photos

I figured I had better add the new photos we have. I'll be taking more soon, so keep checking back.

Moving So Fast

It seems like just yesterday that I blogged about Xander, but it's been over a week and it has just flew by.

Last Wednesday, Grandma Nordmeyer made the trip over to Marshall to visit Tracy and Xander. It was nice that she was able to come over because I'm sure Tracy is going to start going stir crazy with only the little one to talk to most days.

They hung out and just had a nice day, made me lunch, which made me happy, and played with Xander. That boy is so spoiled.

We had big plans for the weekend, but as usual this time of year, sickness changed things.

Tracy's sister Trudy was planning on bringing her girls, Sarah, Abby and Isabelle over to see Xander. Well, illness struck and plans were changed. I know there were a few sad girls near Foley.

Xander seems to be growing so fast right now. The outfits that he was swimming in last week are slowly seeming to fit a lot better. He's also started "talking" now, making all kinds of noises to let us know what he's thinking. It's fun to just lay there and listen to him.

He's also starting to sleep better at night, waking up usually 2 times each night.

His hair is growing really fast too. It's sad to think that we may have to have his hair cut before he's even a month old, but if we let it go too long, it may get in the way.

I'll try to be more dedicated to writing again. It's too much fun not to.
